Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Happy Halloween.  While we hope all of the children have a fun Halloween, we keep our routine normal at school on Halloween. We do some special fun, fall activities and even carve a pumpkin, but we leave the costume fun for you to do after school.

Willow Room: MWF class:

We read "The bumpy little pumpkin" by Margery Cuyler
We asked the children "Do you have a pumpkin at your house?"

We glued orange construction paper pieces onto a paper plate to make a pumpkin.
We used roller brushes to paint with orange paint er a pumpkin shape stencil on top of green paper.  They ended up looking like pumpkins in a field.

We did "pumpkin in the red barn", "Pass the pumpkin" and "As I was walking to town" for music time.

We did a pumpkin rhyme at circle time.

Maple Room- Morning class

We read "Froggy's Halloween" by Jonathan London
We did an experiment today: "Does a pumpkin float or sink?" The children had to make a prediction- 6 thought it would float, and 9 thought it would sink.......it floated!  Our conclusion was it floats because there is air inside to hold it up.

We also took a vote on how we wanted to carve our pumpkin face today- then we carved it the winning way and later put a flashlight inside to see it light up.

We cut out pumpkin shapes and we decorated our vests for our Thanksgiving party at the easel.

We did The October song, 5 little pumpkins, and pass the pumpkin for music time.

We did letter E activities, and we made a spider web by passing yarn from person to person and wrapping it around our feet before passing it on.  We all sat in a big circle.

Maple Room - afternoon class
We were learning about colors suing nursery rhymes and now we are learning about shapes using nursery rhymes and favorite songs. Today we are learning about circles.

We read "The very busy spider" by Eric Carle and we did the nursery rhyme "Little Miss Muffet"

We used circle shapes dipped in black paint to make spiders.   We had dab a doo painters at the easel on circle shapes.

We did The October song, Itsy Bitsy Spider, "There's a spider on ....." for music time.

Oak Room:
We read Arthur's Halloween by Marc Brown

We made orange jack-o-lanterns by cutting the lines on a piece of construction paper.  We stapled them into a circle and added a black handle.  The children colored them too.

We did "Pumpkin in the brown straw", "pass the pumpkin" (and when they got stuck with the pumpkin they stood up and said "Happy Halloween" and one jack-o-lantern went out to play for music time.

We did the letter H book.

Stay & Play:

We read "What do you remember?" by Paul Stewart

We painted with mesh shower puffs dipped in paint.

We did "Let's go fly a kite" using scarves, "She'll be coming around the mountain" for music time.

We did a math activity of size comparisons. We also did a listening lotto farm sounds game.
