Activities for Wednesday, January 6, 2010

All classes played in the gym today with scooters and other large motor toys.

Willow Room- MWF class

We read "Snow" by P.D. Eastman and Roy McKie

For art today we made a mixture of shaving cream and glue and the children used it to paint onto a paper shaped like a snowman. It will be our very own indoor snowman.

We had magnetic letters and shapes out, a connect and build with shapes toy, white play dough with snowman shapes cutters, puzzles.

We brought tubs of snow into our room and we used liquid water colors to color the snow.

For music we sang Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, 2 little black birds, Brown bear, brown bear, and I'm a little snowman. We also did "The sneezing song" and talked about how germs spread easily from one person to the next.

We looked for the letter "A" in our room.

Maple Room-MWF class:

We read "The snowy day" by Ezra Jack Keats

We did Ice cube painting with dry tempra paint. At the easel we had Pom Pom's and corks in paint with snowflake shapes.

We sang the January song, winter song, list of dances, Today is Monday, and Pass the snowball (like hot potato)

We did the estimating jar of "How many snowflakes?" we also are doing a science experiment called "Grow a snowman" where you put a tiny snowman in a jar of water and watch as it grows bigger and bigger each day.

Oak Room:

We read "The first day of winter" by Denise Fleming

We worked in our journals today on the letter "N". We also take the children out of the room in small groups to play games that help them build on their math or language skills.

We had frozen blocks of ice with something hidden in the ice. The children used salt to help melt the ice to discover what was hidden in the ice.

We sang the cool bear hunt, snowman pokey and did a melted snowball story.
